Taking
what we learned from 2000, we set out on a mission to bring home a
trophy. And not just any trophy, but The Club Participation Award. But
to do this, we knew it would take more than 14 Saabs...a lot more. What
it would take would be the collective effort of the Central Penn SAAB
Club, along with our friends from WASSAAB (Washington Area SAAB Club),
NESA (New England SAAB Association),
The
New Jersey SAAB Owners Club, and the Swedish Underground. With several
months of planning, bringing over 50 SAABs to the show, we were on a
collision course with trouble...
A Parking Problem
How much space does it take to park 54 SAABs? Well, much more than the show sponsors had allotted for us...a lot more! The problem was caused when the Autocross sign-in area was set up adjacent to our area. Actually, it was set up right in the middle of our area. With more SAABs arriving by the minute, we needed to annex some parking, and fast. With very light turnout in the Volvo area, SAABs began filling every available space...a truly magnificent sight to behold.
Perfecting the Formula
Taking what we learned in 2000, we attempted to park the cars by model type, but because of the limited parking area, this didn't go quite as we had planned. Once again Lehman Motors SAAB in Harrisburg, PA supplied lunch for a hungry group of SAABers, and there were plenty of door prizes donated by many dealers and repair shops who support the clubs in attendance. Our Peoples Choice Award was presented once again to Dr. Bill Jenkins from Carlisle and his perfect orange 1974 99 coupe.
